[Hong Kong, 1 June 2018] The 1st IPSC Action Air World Shooting Championship presented by Nara Thai Cuisine will be held from 30 June to 2 July 2018 at the Kowloon Bay International Trade & Exhibition Centre (KITEC). The Hong Kong Practical Shooting Association (HKPSA) is honored to announce that the International Practical Shooting Confederation (IPSC) has chosen Hong Kong to host the inaugural IPSC Action Air World Shooting Championship.
The Championship has attracted around 480 shooters from 18 of IPSC’s member countries including Brazil, Bulgaria, China, Chinese Taipei, Finland, Germany, Great Britain, Hong Kong, Macau, Mongolia, Netherlands, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Poland, Russia, Singapore, Spain and Thailand, to compete for the final champion title in Hong Kong. Competitors will test their shooting skills firing harmless BB pellets at paper and reactive metal targets.
IPSC shooting is dynamic, challenging, and one of the fastest growing shooting sports in the world today. Requiring mental discipline as well as precision skill and technique, the sport gives athletes the opportunity to develop personal discipline and sportsmanship. Action air IPSC shooting has been practiced in Hong Kong for almost 15 years, utilizing air-powered handguns to solve the shooting challenges presented by the courses of fire. Today Hong Kong’s high standard of action air shooters and training facilities have become the envy of the world.
Ms. Emily Ngan, President of HKPSA, commented, “We are delighted that Hong Kong has been chosen to host the world’s first Action Air World Shooting Championship. This is a high honor and recognition for our city, as Hong Kong is home to some of the best action air shooters in the world.”
“The event has drawn tremendous support from the community, and we have enlisted over 300 youth volunteers from the Hong Kong Adventure Corps, Hong Kong Air Cadet Corps, Hong Kong Army Cadets Association, Hong Kong Sea Cadet Corps and The Hong Kong Girl Guides to ensure the smooth operation of the event. The opening ceremony will also features performances by Maryknoll Convent School and Diocesan Boys’ School.”
Explaining action air IPSC’s unique appeal to youth, Ms Ngan commented, “Due to the dynamic nature of the sport, IPSC places a much higher emphasis on safety; and action air IPSC provides a safe and fun way to learn the basics of this exciting sport. By hosting this world championship here in Hong Kong, we hope to inspire more up-and-coming shooting stars in the future.”
